Villa La Massa is an XVIth villa, lies on the banks of the Arno River, right in the heart of the Tuscany countryside. This hotel is made up of three Villas, dating back to the days of the Medici (16th Century): the Noble Villa (Villa Nobile), the Old Oil Mill (Vecchio Frantoio) and the Little Villa (Villina) comprise the complex which, from an ancient dwelling of the aristocracy. The Villa La Massa offers its guests 37 rooms, all different from one another, and all recently refurbished in the traditional Florentine style. Spacious and airy rooms are filled with antique furniture, fabrics have been woven at the historic Florentine textile mills, wrought iron and woodwork from the famous old-time Florence cabinet makers are found in the bedrooms and their sitting rooms. Bathrooms and their fittings are done in a style reflecting the atmosphere of times gone and are fitted with Cararra marble. Many have windows framing the beautiful Tuscan landscape. The well kept lawns, the chapel and the secret underground passageways all radiate luxury and beauty. The large rooms look out on the fields or the river.
In 1948 Villa La Massa was transformed into a luxury hotel. Since then many famous guests enjoyed their stay at Villa La Massa; Clarke Gable, Winston Churchill, Barbara Hutton, David Niven, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton just to name a few; more recently David Bowie and Iaman took over the Villa for their wedding. From its XVIIth century period furniture, refined decoration and inspired Tuscany cuisine to its superb cellar with its excellent regional vintages, it offers all the ingredients for an idyllic stay. Villa La Massa is situated to the south of Florence, only a few kilometers from the exit Firenze sud of the A1 motorway. At the disposal of our guests there is a shuttle to take them, 7 days a week and free of charge, from the hotel into Florence, dropping them off close to Ponte Vecchio. And Santa Maria Novella railway station in Florence is at only a 15 minutes car drive from the hotel. |
